CASL: Privacy and Collecting Personal Information

In addition to CASL, you must also consider privacy issues whenever you are collecting, using or disclosing personal information. For more information, contact York University’s Information and Privacy Office.

Privacy Collection Notice

If you are collecting personal information (such as an individual’s name, address and telephone number), the request for consent must also include a collection notice (in accordance with FIPPA) containing the following information:

  1. The legal authority for the collection;
  2. The principal purpose or purposes for which the personal information is intended to be used; and
  3. The contact number of a York University employee who can answer questions about the collection.

Privacy: Personal information is collected under the authority of The York University Act, 1965 and will be used for educational, administrative and statistical purposes. If you have any questions about the collection, use and disclosure of personal information by York University, please contact: Title, Address, Telephone Number, (Email).

Note: When using this generic notice, please fill in the contact information section. The person acting as contact should be someone with sufficient authority to answer privacy related questions. See the Privacy section on the IPO website.
